When we went to see YB Danny Law, Penang State Minister for Tourism and Culture, he was fully supportive of our heritage inspired Yee Sang and decided to call a press conference to help promote the tradition of tossing Yee Sang , the significant cultural legacy, to the tourists and the general public.

During the press conference, I highlighted to members of the press that : 'This special pack is a limited heritage edition to commemorate Penang's listing as a Unesco World Heritage Site.'
Although Penang Passion has been promoting the tradition of tossing Yee Sang to the expatriate community in Penang, for the last three years, it is the first year that we came up with this special pack as we pay homage to Penang cultural heritage. The packaging design is inspired by different elements of Penang heritage i.e. the Nyonyaware, the Peranakan tapestry and wood carvings, our traditional costume of qi pao and 'sang gui' hair-do in our icon are all heritage inspired elements.

As part of our cultural heritage promotion, we are planning to conduct CNY kids' cooking classes at both Tropical Spice Garden and Garden Ku , featuring tossing of Yee Sang and highlighting its cultural significance to our future generation. I'm very excited about this mission as it has been a personal goal for me to impart Penang cultural legacy to the next generation. It is this personal mission that fuels our passion to produce our special Yee Sang pack.

Additionally Penang Passion, together with our sponsors, Spring Toss, Pacific West and the Chefs Association of Malaysia ( Penang Chapter ) are also eager to share the CNY festive joy with the less fortunate . We will be conducting 'lo-sang' events in Silver Jubilee Old Folks' Home and Rumah Seri Cahaya Orphanage on Feb 20th ( 7th day of Lunar New Year ) to spread the CNY cheers to these less fortunate.
